About Us

Sanibel Island Explorer

Our Mission

Sanibel Island Explorer exists to be the most helpful, honest, and up-to-date guide to Sanibel Island. Whether you are planning your first visit or you have been coming to Sanibel for decades, we want to help you make the most of your time on this beautiful island.

What We Cover

Why We Built This

We built this because we love Sanibel and were frustrated by the generic, outdated tourist guides out there. We wanted something that felt like advice from a friend who lives on the island — honest recommendations, real tips, and information that is actually current.

Why Sanibel?

Sanibel Island is unlike anywhere else in Florida. There are no high-rises, no chain restaurants on the main strip, and no boardwalk arcades. Instead, you will find miles of pristine beaches, a world-class wildlife refuge, and a community that genuinely cares about preserving what makes this island special. Sanibel is a place where you slow down, connect with nature, and remember what a beach vacation is supposed to feel like.

Who's Behind This

We're not a tourism board or a marketing agency. Sanibel Island Explorer is run by a small team with a personal connection to the island. We own property on Sanibel — our house was destroyed by Hurricane Ian in September 2022 and has been rebuilding for over three years. That experience gave us a deep appreciation for the island's resilience and a firsthand understanding of what visitors and residents need to know.

We started this site because the existing guides were generic, outdated, or written by people who had never set foot on the island. We wanted something better — a resource built by people who actually care about Sanibel, updated regularly, and focused on being genuinely useful.

How We Keep This Accurate

Every guide, restaurant listing, and recommendation on this site is verified against current conditions. We cross-reference official sources, check directly with businesses when possible, and update our content as things change — which on a post-hurricane island, happens often.

If something on our site is wrong or outdated, we want to know. Email us at hello@sanibelislandexplorer.com and we'll fix it.

Guides are reviewed and updated regularly. Time-sensitive pages like conditions, events, and dining hours are checked frequently during season.
